Tridel’s Michael Smith, Director of Development will be the featured speaker on Friday February 29th, 2008


Michael Smith

Michael Smith is the Director of Development at Tridel. Michael is actively involved in every step of the development process including site analysis/acquisition, the rezoning process right up to and including condominium registration and handover to the purchaser. In his daily activities, Michael works closely with senior management and the principals of Tridel to identify and secure future development opportunities, manages an in-house team of professional development planners/managers and large teams of external professional consultants to ensure the timely processing and approval of development applications. He regularly works with a variety of consultants such as: urban planners; architects; landscape architects; heritage architects; transportation planners/engineers; environmental consultants; arborists; wind engineers; noise/acoustical engineers; and servicing/stormwater engineers. Michael also regularly interacts with land owners, the real estate broker community and municipal staff and politicians.

Michael received a Bachelor of Applied Arts (B.A.A.) from Ryerson Polytechnic University’s School of Urban and Regional Planning in 1999 and received a Law Degree (LL.B.) from the University of Western Ontario in 2002. Michael was called to the Bar in the Province of Ontario as a barrister and solicitor in 2003.

Prior to joining Tridel, Michael maintained a general planning and development law practice at McCarthy Tétrault LLP, which included providing advice and advocacy in matters pertaining to municipal approvals and municipal law. Michael has also worked as a planner for two law firms, a planner for two small planning consulting firms, an assistant project manager for one commercial developer and for a mid-sized residential developer.
